Why is holi celebrated?, /  holi story

According to the legend, the festival of holi is considered to have started from the time of hiranyakashyap. Hiranyakashipu was a king of ancient india who was like an asura. It is said that there used to be a demon named hiranyakashyap. Whose younger brother was slaughtered by lord vishnu. Hiranyakashyap had received a boon from brahmadev's hard worship.

According to the boon given to him, neither human nor animal could kill hiranyakashyap. Neither in the day nor in the night, nor with the weapon, nor with the weapon, nor on the ground nor in the sky. Due to this power, he was always proud and wanted to avenge his brother from lord vishnu.

Now you will know the real thing that holi q is celebrated. Actually, hiranyakashyap was a staunch opponent of vishnu. He had announced in his kingdom that no one would worship lord vishnu. If someone is found doing so, he will be given the death penalty. He said that he is god himself and they should all worship him. All the people had stopped worshiping lord vishnu for fear of hiranyakashyap. But he had a son of his own named "prahlada". He was a child, but even at this tender age, he worshiped lord vishnu.

Prahlada was a great devotee of lord vishnu. When hiranyakashyap came to know about this, he was furious. He tried to convince prahlada in every way that he should stop worshiping vishnu. But prahlada stayed true and firm devotees, where he used to believe, just kept on his own tune. Ultimately hiranyakashyap decides to kill prahlada for his pride. He made many efforts for this, but due to the grace of lord vishnu, every attempt of him failed. He got annoyed badly. They could not understand what to do if she was.

Eventually, he thought of enlisting the help of his sister to kill prahlada. Hiranyakashyap had a sister named "holika". She was a great devotee of lord shiva. He pleased lord shiva and obtained a boon from him. Lord shiva gave her a garment that even after wearing it, agni could not burn it. Hirnyakashyap wanted to take advantage of this thing only. He asked his sister to take prahlada in his lap and sit in the fire. Therefore prahlada should be water and holika will be alive due to her boon.

Holika did the same, but she says that god does not protect her devotees in some way. Lord vishnu also did a trick to save his devotee prahlada. As holika, wearing her dress, sat on prahlada's lap. Lord vishnu pushed her hard. Due to which the cloth of holika flew away and holika was consumed within seconds. At the same time, due to the grace of lord vishnu, prahlada's hair was not deterred. This is the reason why holi is celebrated till today. This festival is celebrated in the happiness of prahlada's escape and the burning of holika.
